One More Challenge

This is what happens when you kill my chickens.

Don't let that innocent face fool you.
This guy is a vicious monster.

He killed all of my bantams
and 4 of my meat birds.
See the bare spot on his arm?
That is from ripping the last two bantams
right through the chicken wire.

I wanted to use a gun.
I seriously thought about using this trap
along with the live trap,
but didn't want to have to deal with that too.

So I trapped him.
Moved him to another county.

and let him go.

He is gone
but so are my birds.
I knew he would just find the other chickens
after he got done with this pen.
I had to act.
I just wish I felt more triumphant.

sorry about the chicken loss! sadly, there'll be another to replace this varmint, eventually. but for now, at least he's gone!

A sad situation, sorry to hear about it. Glad you caught him and hope things with the move are going smoothly:@)

Oh, you were generous. I would have grabbed a shovel and BAM! Maybe. I would have wanted to, anyway.

I'm very sorry about your chickens. I know how attached you were to your bantams. I hate losing animals to predators, it seems such a waste. I understand why you don't feel triumphant. It's a sad win.

Oh no! I'm sorry about your chickens. So much hard work gone in a matter of minutes. :(

I know they're not sweet. I did an internship at the local zoo one year and they have a pretty bad raccoon problem. They lose birds every year.

Little brat doesn't know how lucky he was.

That is the sad part of farming and having animals. You do your best and they still can be in danger. Good job trapping and relocating. So sorry for your loss...you work so hard!

We have done that with our attic squirrels but they did not eat chickens - so sorry about that. sandie

What is with raccoons reaching through and pulling chickens out?! Or, just biting their heads off if that doesn't work. Raccoons are bad news. I'm so sorry about your chickens. I would have been furious. And Brett would have killed the varmint, I'm sure.

Sad about your chickens... sucks. Glad you caught the raccoon before it killed em all.

That's awful. So sorry that you lost your chooks but I'm glad that you had mercy on the coon and "rehomed" him. Time to get some stronger hardware fence to keep the critters out of the coop.

Well Crap! A coon is one nasty bugger with chickens and rival a badger in that area. I'm afraid I would not of been able to kill him, but, I would of definitely called my neighbor to do it. Once they've tasted chicken they'll be back. Plus, the risk of rabies in him since he is that brave would of been the end of him. I can't kill anything either, but who knows if I'ld had a gun when I came upon that...I bet I would of reacted pretty harsh. I'm so sorry!

they do look innocent and they are dangerous. Jake got in a fight with one in the back yard, and they were really going at it. bob got into it with them and grabbed it by the tail and slung it up and over the privacy fence into the other yard. the silly thing climbed to the top of the fence and jumped on Jake and bob ended up killing it with a shovel, just like one of the commenters said. so sorry about your chickens, you were good to let him go. hard to believe they are smart enough to get them from inside a coup

I'm so sorry. We had a raccoon plow through half of our chickens last summer. We set traps but never caught him. They are so destructive - I'm glad you were able to catch yours.

So so sorry! How very sad. I would be devasted if anything like that happened to my girls also. I hope everything else is going well.

Girl you are way nicer than me...I would of shot it..Easy Peasy. I know the damage they can do. I will shoot a dog, coon or any other varmit getting my girls. I know I need to beef my hen pen up...with the dog we have, no coon can come near them...but that could change someday...so now I will buy more wire. Sorry for you precious loss.

Hugs Cindy

Sorry about your poultry - but, that is part of living in the country, I guess. I would not have the heart to shoot Mr. Raccoon - I'd have trapped him and released him elsewhere. As a matter of fact, I did just that very thing in 1994 - a mom raccoon killed our ducks and rabbits, and I captured her and her babies and released them a long ways away. Far away from MY FARM!

So sorry.........the same thing happened to my ducks one year. These creatures are a handful to keep out of chicken and duck pens. Hope you won't have any more problems.

Aw Michaele that's so sad about the chickens. I'm glad you caught both of the raccoons...now hopefully you'll have some peace of mind. So far we've only had one raccoon come around...a big male that was hiding in the old barn before it burned down. Now that Shep is full grown we don't have any trouble with animals going after the chickens...so far so good. I hope you sleep better now.
