Young Bantams

I just love bantam chickens.

I especially love this age.

When they have just finished feathering out,

and it's still hard to determine their sex.

They are sweet and gentle,

inquisitive,

and fun.

I could watch these little chickens

all day.

Every year I find a new breed I have not yet raised.

This is an Americana bantam.
I was hoping for blue eggs
but the more I watch them
the more I think they are roosters.

Millie Fleur pullet.

Sweetness in a feather boa : )

Best of all
they are my pets.
They don't eat much,
will lay lots of eggs
and I never have to butcher them.
Ever.

Cute and fluffy, makes me want baby chickens. I don't think Sully has it in him anymore though?

I love the curly feathers! The feather boa is so very attractive. White for summer. Perfect.

They really are sweet little things...love the fluffy white one. There is no way I could butcher my laying hens either...they're family!

Only one question, how come when my hair sticks up and out like that no one thinks I'm cute and fluffy??? Blue eggs would be cool:@)

All shapes and sizes from the looks of it. Certainly not your ordinary birds. Love the fluffy peeps.

Livie and I love your chicken photos! She was especially excited to see them, since she recently held a baby chick at school after watching it hatch from its egg in the incubator.

I have never since such fluffiness. Adorable.
When they are a day or two old we hold the upside down by their feet. If they just hang and don't fight us...they are probably female...the males will actually pull their bodies up to peck your hand. So far out of 50 chicks last year...we were only wrong on 2...lol It is always worth a try.

We share the same approach and love of chickens. Our new ones are the same age. So cute in a gangly sort of way.

They are gorgeous birds, truly. I love the frizzles.

I haven't raised bantams myself yet, but my mom just got a couple and she says they are very docile and she picks them up and pets them and they just love it. Makes me think about it....

I need more chickens like a hole in my head!

Most importantly, I wanted to thank you for your comment on my blog post. I feel the same way. Funny how you can find a good friend from so far away, isn't it? The internet can be wonderful.

Take care of yourself!
