Wacky Weather

When we woke up this morning
the sun was shining bright and hot.
It was a beautiful Saturday morning
everyone was out and about.

I hadn't intended to head to the farm early
because there was rain in the forecast.
But with the warmth of the sun,
I just couldn't resist.
There is so much to do to get ready for
the new baby goats.

I left the girls at home.
They both work at 5:00 and then have a slumber party after work.
I figured their day would be full enough.

Within 30 min of arriving at the farm,
this is what the sky looked like.
I just had to go grab my camera.
The clouds were so picturesque
and surreal.

A few hours later the girls called to say
a huge hailstorm had hit the town.
One window on the house was broken out
there was hail piled everywhere and tree leaves all over the porch.
They said no one was supposed to be driving
and the county was under a tornado watch.

The farm is 35 miles north,
and there was a breeze and spitting rain.

This is what I saw coming into town.

Driveway next to the house.

Front of house.

Porch.

I am wondering how hard this will be to clean up.
Looks pretty sticky.

The girls took photos during the storm.
But they took them on their iPods and
I don't know how to access them.
It was pretty intense.
I am glad they are brave and capable
(they brought my garden plants in off the porch)

So that's the excitement for today.
My mom called me from Wyoming,
they had been watching the storm on radar
and saw it was right over us.

My "middle" daughter is on her way to NY.
She is going to be a Nanny for the summer.
She has been texting us as she goes through each state.
She told me that if I ever move again
I need to go to Philadelphia.
She said it is exactly what I would love.
Green like a forest with farms scattered throughout.
She said NE is great, but Philly is what we see only in magazines.

This is Sara and her boyfriend Jake,
who is driving her out there and flying back.
I took this the evening before they left.
Be safe Sara.
Miss you already.

my lordy! can your daughters be any more stunning?! i mean, really!

SO glad (besides the window) things are okay at your house. hope your roof didn't sustain too much damage. those clouds definitely spell tornadoes and hail - from everything i've seen and heard, those ropy, intestine-like ones are bad news...

Sarah is beautiful! ...and that storm!! WOW! The clouds are amazing and the hail ...I've never seen anything like it (and hope I don't).

Michaele,
Wow, just went through this mess in IN but have never seen hail do that! Safe travels and summer to Sara, I'm in IN and TN if she needs anything in my neighborhood. I sent one off to NYC a few years ago, it was hard, but was a great life experience for her. Praying for the midwest, Elaine

Did you get the weather at the farm?
What do you do when it gets bad and you are back at your other house? That porch is going to be quite a challenge to clean up...very scary weather.
Yes indeed, your daughter is a beauty. I wonder if she will be anywhere near us when she is in NY.

Did you ever tell me if the Clarkson Rodeo is the one near me?

The clouds look droopy and I can't believe the leaves stuck all over the place! Now if it happened to me, my luck would be an immediate 96 degrees after the storm and everything would be baked onto the house! Sorry you have a mess to clean up and window to replace, but glad that's the worst of it!
PS-Philly had a 73 degree beautiful day:@)

So sorry about the big mess. It sounds like your girls handled everything amazingly well. You must be so proud of them. Wishing the oldest a wonderful summer, sounds like a great experience.
And... of course... we are really looking forward to those baby goats!

Those clouds - wow. It's a stunning photo, but I think I'd want to have a nice, deep storm cellar nearby when the sky looks like that. I hope that hail didn't do too much damage.

Stay safe! My parents are in central Iowa and are getting similar weather. We're supposed to be getting it in eastern Iowa later tonight.

Wow! I've never seen anything like that before where I live in West Virginia! That was one big hail storm! I'm glad the girls were alright and the only real damage is the window. I'm with your middle daughter on PA! I've not been too far into PA but it is beautiful near the West Virginia border up that way.

You are a good momma. You have raised all your beautiful daughters to be very smart and very capable in any given situation.

I live at the edge of a village in the middle of PA. Every day I am awestruck by the beauty that surrounds me. The rolling hills and forested mountains tug at my heart if I ever consider leaving. Sigh. Even the food is wonderful! You would be most welcome here if you ever decide to pack up and move. :)

You sure make beautiful girls!!

Love the cloud photo. Really interesting. I was thinking of you alot yesterday...hoping you wouldn't get tornados in your area. Sorry you had some damage but glad you are safe.

Beautiful girl, I hope she has fun with her nanny job!
I'm sorry for the broken window but so glad it wasn't any worse; although, all those leaves look like a BIG clean-up job!
We get clouds like that sometimes during our summer monsoon storms. After TWG's comment, I will pay more attention to them for the possibility of nasty weather!

Your daughter is gorgeous!

I'm sorry that you had such a mess. That was one heck of a storm!

If this comment makes it...here's hoping..darn security shields on my computer are giving me FITS!!
Yikes on the storm and I am hoping some of that other stuff today has missed you!
Its really sounding awful south of us.
Your geese photos make me want some geese

and your ideas on the yogurt making are excellent. I love a good yogurt, but my goat milk isn't the firmest of yogurt. Now the milk cow comes in handy, but I don't find enough time in my day!
Gosh, I hope this one makes it!

Those storm clouds look wicked! Glad everyone was ok and your house made it through with only a broken window.

Wow, that is a lot of hail. But thank goodness it was just hail and you guys are all safe. They said there were 97 tornadoes that touched down in OK, KS and NE and IA on Saturday. This is the insane weather time of year, that is for sure.

WOW. When I first scrolled down, I thought the clouds were part of a painting. How unusual.

We got rain Saturday morning and Sunday night but it was no where near as bad as it was in other parts of the midwest.

Glad you're ok

My gosh Michaele what a hailstorm that was! That was the day we had tornadoes go all around us and all we got was 1/4 inch of rain. My hubby's workplace (Spirit) was hit hard but he has been back to work since Saturday evening. I'm so glad you weren't hit with anything worse than hail and leaves everywhere...that's too bad about the window too. Let's hope we get some rain but without the storms this time. Aw...I feel bad for you that your daughter will be so far away this summer..but what an adventure for her! The Philly area sounds like it's right up my alley too...lots of green and trees and rolling hills and farms...sigh. Sometimes I really do miss rainy days like I used to have in British Columbia. Oh well...you can't have it all ;) I hope it wasn't too bad cleaning up all the leaves.
