This is a story about being #1.
#1 is a senior in high school.
He is playing on an undefeated basketball team this season.
He stays after regular practice every night
and shoots until he has made
100 baskets.
He comes in very early in the morning
and is done with
his personal practice,
before the early practices for sports and cheerleading
have even begun.
During last Saturday's game,
he broke the standing school record for points.
The record he broke was his coaches record (the one in the photo),
from when he played at this same high school.
I have been talking to the girls a lot lately about
what it really takes to be good, and how few people
really know what it takes or are willing to do it.
I just love how he is a perfect example of
what it takes.
The crowd stood and literally roared for a good minute.
It was awesome.
I see basketball scholarships in his future : )

I love hearing stories of exceptional teens and he is definatley one!
Now that is dedication and sportsmanship. I'll bet he makes stellar grades, too.
Cool. VERY cool...
So Awesome! #1 should be very proud of himself for doin what he knows it takes to be #1. Good for him!
his dedication is inspiring...
He is a great example of talent plus work making success. Sometimes people forget about the work part and think they can ride on talent alone. A good lesson indeed!
It's going to pay off...betcha!
Bravo! He's setting a good example and must be learning well from good role models! You must be very proud!
YUP..that young man will set his own goals and then accomplish! Very cool that you shared such a nice story. We had a local boy go on from here years ago and he's playing professional ball now. Good to show those younguns at the school just what hard work does!
Great story! And I truly hope he gets a wonderful scholarship, maybe we'll be cheering for him during March Madness in a year or two:@)
i came to your blog via Aspen Meadows.. Yes, our blog friends are always there, in good times and sad, ready to listen, read, reply, and make our days so much brighter. I have learnt so much about... horses, dinkeys( well that should be donkeys but maybe they are a dinkey size!!!) rescue ponies, dogs and cats, snow, lots of it, wildtrail cameras, families who live so far away but I feel like I am part of the life there. I am so lucky to have blogger friends.Well done to you, specially and your family.Yes, it takes hard work to be at the top, inner strength, and many hours of dedication. Cheers from Jean in New Zealand. I'll add you to my list.
Wishing him and the team all the luck in the world.
It's great he found something positive to pour his determination and passion into :-)
great story... thanks for sharing it!
Nice story - you are getting so busy!
Happy Valentine's Day. sandie♥
In a world that tells you not to be exceptional..it'll make someone feel bad...good for him!!!!!
This is so awesome...It is good to hear when a young adult does well and has great hopes for the future.
now that is what a role model in sports should be...not these over priced pro atheletes who lost their morals....
