What I Love About The Farm

I love how hard I work for simple rewards;

And how some of my favorite friends have always been animals.

I love how everything is just busy living and growing,
not advancing their career path or making travel plans;

I love how close I live to the earth and the heavens at the same time.

I love the feel of a pocket full of eggs, a duck's beak, a horse’s tail
and the smell of goat’s milk.

I love wood heat, clothes lines, chicken wire, coffee cans and screen doors;

I love how putting on a pair of work gloves makes me feel strong and capable.

I love earning an animal’s trust;

And loving something regardless of being loved back.

I love people who pray for their animals.

I love the words; Carhartt, Levi, barn red, Speckled Sussex, thoroughbred, heritage, hayloft, kindling, broody, fleece and Elderberry.

I love how; walking through an herb garden and merely brushing the plants with my trousers, unleashes aromas that sweep my mind of all discord.

I love how farm life doesn’t require an impressive resume,
just determination, faith and a sturdy pair of shoes.

I love how the circle of life begins and ends on the farm and how loss never gets easier, but appreciating every precious day does.
