Chicken Round-Up

It was time to catch the chickens
and pen them up for the upcoming
winter months.

Bantam roosters were included in the round-up
and they screamed like little girls.

Tess helped

with

the

round-up

until

she didn't.

Our one and only big rooster
has been in jail
all summer
for attempted murder
 of a duck.

He was more than delighted
to have some women folk
join him in his
incarceration pen.

The guineas were freed,
and allowed to share the garden tomatoes
of which they had been chastised for doing
a few months ago.

But they apparently
didn't get the memo

because they spent the whole day

on top of the coop they had been freed from.

The Buffs enjoyed their new furnishings
which came complete

 with bathtub.

LOL lots of fun! I wish we could let our chickens go like we used to when we first moved to the farm. Unfortunately Chelsea our little Shih Tzu terrorist can't be trusted so the chickens are fenced in...it's a large area though. I bet your big rooster was all smiles when the girls moved in ;) Don't you just love chickens. I need to try Guinea's one day. Hope your day is a good one!

Huh, wonder if our exotic chick is a guinea?

Your rooster is lucky. We ate ours when he turned murderous.

Trying to murder a duck? Doesn't that carry a 10-year sentence? Conjugal visits? Say it ain't so....

Great pictures. So they free-range all summer and you have to search for their eggs?

I loved just watching chickens. When I was still at home, I had banties and would sit for hours just talking chicken talk.

Your chickens are so pretty! Mine usually look a little worse for wear due to being with the rooster all year. I wish we could keep ours out during the day, but predators have left us with only a few chickens now.

Great post, Michaele. Your photos are wonderful. :)
