This is an Elastrator used for banding (castrating) male goats to make them wethers. Not pleasant for anyone and only slightly less tramatic than disbudding as far as I am concerned. He is fine. I have never had a problem with this procedure.

Poor baby boy! I am such a softy, I actually took my boys to vet to have them done when they were little! I just couldn't do it!

That's how we castrated our goats when we had them, and we still use one of those on the bull calves my Jersey cow insists on presenting us with each year.

We have dehorned full-grown goats using a band, too, but it's a slow process.

I just bought one the other day, I still have to do the deed. Not looking forward to it either.

hahahaha. I saw the picture and the first thing I thought was thank goodness I am not the one banding our new baby goats - it will already have been done. Phew!
