Where do I start - high or low?
Let's get the low out there and said.
This is our daschund Ramsey.
Last Saturday he couldn't move his back legs.
It is a common problem with this breed involving a
herniated disk. He has been on steroids and restricted
movement for 5 days now and is not any better.
Second round and increased dosage of steroids today,
but not a lot of optimism since there has been not response
as of yet.
Surgery for this can be 2-3K and would have to be done
at a University hospital in Kansas or Iowa.
That is not an option for us.
This may be an option. (this is not Ramsey)
There really are no good options in these cases.
Surgery has no guarantee and if we go with the wheels,
he still has no bladder control, etc., etc. (sigh)
Maybe just say a little prayer for him/us that we can
all make it through this and whatever is to come.
The second low -
or more like high, then low,
was the Nigerian Dwarf baby goats that we
had been waiting for were born yesterday.
I was elated, as I had gotten back from Lincoln and
had thought Ramsey was improving and then got the news
about the goats. Cloud 9 for me!
But today things didn't go as well. The price was not what
I thought we had agreed on and I absolutely hate negotiating price
on anything! I can't stand the feeling of handing someone hard earned
cash and, in return, them thinking they did you a favor. Hate it!
So, I had my mind all turned back around to accepting that these
goats were just not for us and we would look elsewhere. By the
time I had talked myself out of them, the breeder said she would go
with my price. I haven't given her an answer yet. It has just
been too emotional of a day.
I am wondering - blog readers - what would you do in the above
mentioned situations? Any words of advice you would like to offer?
On the upswing
and there is always an upswing if you just look for it.
Or as in my case, it might just come in the mail.
This is what I got today:
My order of heirloom seeds I placed with Baker Creek.
And this beautiful Navajo Churro wool roving.
I traded our Goat's Milk Soaps for this wool
with a friend and blog follower from Crowheart, WY.
I can't wait to get started spinning it. The fibers are long and course - just
perfect for spinning or felting.
Oh, and one more thing that came in my mailbox today.
I have seen this movie twice but still ordered it again.
So, I will let the sun go down on this day,
do a little therapeutic spinning with my drop spindle,
watch some really good actors in an entertaining movie,
have a little wine, and be reminded of a quote by Mary Anne Radmacher -
Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying
"I will try again tomorrow".

I'm so sorry to hear of your doggie's troubles. Truly heartbreaking. I hope he will respond to the 2nd treatment...
I think the situation with the goats might just put me off of the whole thing. Even if the seller is willing to meet your offer, I wouldn't want them thinking they cut you a huge deal or anything. I'd probably have to walk away. But that's just me.
Sounds like you have some nice things to look forward to, but that you definitely need some down time for now.
I hope all goes well for Ramsey...
Your right - sometimes it is courageous just to keep going.
I am so sorry about your pup. I know another gal whose dog is on that frame. Don't know about the bladder control though.
Nice items in the mail today.
love, sandie
I'm so sorry about Ramsey! I do hope that he responds to the treatment. I remember going to the beach some 20 years ago and seen a doggie like yours in the wheel chair thing. That dog was the happiest dog. He had a great time running all over the beach and always had a smile on his face. I'm not sure if he had potty issues or not. I do know that they can have a good life in the little wheel chairs.
I'm not sure about the goats. I wouldn't like it if someone changed the price on me either.
I am sorry to hear about your Ramsey. I have a corgi that has the same problem. He had two sets of steroids and the second set worked for him. He has use of his legs now. He didn't have potty issues. Hopefully they will work for your doggie.
Not sure what I would do about the goats. I probably say thank you but no thank you.
Oh, so sorry for your bummer day. I hate when I feel a low feeling because of stuff like this. Sorry about your dog. Our dog has arthritis in his hip and stopped walking on his leg, but we gave him glucosamine and he's regained use again...for now.
What a pain about the goats! That is so frustrating! Don't know what I'd do. When we bought our goats a while back, the day after we got them, I went up to the barn and one was dead. I was so mad! My husband just wanted to let it go, but I just couldn't. I drove over there, and the guy gave us another. He kind of acted weird about it, so, needless to say, he won't be getting any recommendations from me. People don't help themselves when they do these things!
I have to say your evening sounds like a perfect way to end your day... thats very sad about your dog, I'll say alittle prayer for ya'll. Good Luck with the goat thing, I dont know what I would do.
SO SORRY !!
Ihate days like that, Just keep the faith and Ramsie may get better my Wennie did and the vet had very little hope or him but, it took a while, but he did come back around and is doing well, I just don't let him jump on the couch anymore. As for the goats you want them and they agreed at your price right? Well, I say takem' and run. It will all soon be forgotten! Remember this too shall pass!!!
How difficult. I didn't realize this was a problem with dachsunds. Our pets really do crawl right into our hearts. Good luck with this situation. I know it can't be easy.
Tough to say with the goats. I think I would speak frankly with the breeder--tell her how it is making you feel and let her know that you are willing to walk away if it really isn't going to work for her. That way you are being straight forward and won't burn any bridges. Just my 2 cents...
I like your seeds, too:) we ordered from seed savers exchange--but I will look into Baker Creek--never heard of them, but I haven't been doing major gardening very long either.
peace...
