This is the delima;
my chickens are deathly afraid of me.
They all run to the corner
and make it look like I have a lot of chickens
confined in a small area.
I try to teach them to come to "chick-chick"
called in a high voice like "kitty-kitty".
These are the looks I get.
I try to be still and just watch them,
hoping they will get used to it
and go about their chicken business,
but they don't buy it for a minute.
I wanted to name them so we could get to know each other on a
more personal basis.
But short of painting their toenails different colors.
I have no way of telling them apart.
So it looks like I am going to have to resort to treats.
That's okay. Love me for what I bring you.
I got my first egg today.
They deserve treats.
And a little more patients on my part.
Aren't they pretty though?

Chickens have very small brains and little else but food motivates them so treats is a very good start to taming them. I've been in your shoes.
They are beauties! Love their lovely feather patterns. That "What the?" cracked me up!
Good luck with bribery!
Did you raise them from chicks? If not it could be because they imprint voice sounds when little.Do the same thing..and say the same thing with the same tone for a week..and a little treat or two....and you might see a big difference.
Good luck..I am working on mine now..they are 3 1/2 weeks old and still in the brooder..hard to let them roam..lol

They are beautiful. I got eleven chicks 3 weeks ago and they are getting to know me. I try to spend some time with them everyday and talk to them. There are definately some who are braver than others and they definaltely have their own personalities. I got 5 differant breeds so I could tell them apart when I named them. I hope yours will get used to you soon.
This is so funny thank you for making me laugh out loud. B
They are a beautiful flock. I love the look on their faces.
Why are they afraid of you? Did you hatch them from chicks? or did the mother do it. I let my bannies hatch their own eggs and I have never got those chicks tamed.
Thank you for your comment, the reason I don't get more chickens is I would have to move my chicken pen out to the pasture. We have foxes so bad and I really hate trapping them, so I don't move the chickens out of my yard.
We have trapped 30 foxes so far.
Thanks for coming by. I love your goats.
I purchased these 10 hens and 1 rooster at an auction a few weeks ago. I haven't had much time to get to know them and visa versa. I am sure with the warmer weather coming and lots of treats, they will tame right down. Thanks for your comments and encouragement.
I have the same problem about telling who is who. The only tow I can tell apart are Lucy (the Rhode Island Red) and Honey the House Chicken who had a broken leg.
They have all learned to love me at lunch time when I bring them out warm noodles!
I love your pictures! Thanks for sharing!
They are beauts! They will settle in eventually and come to see you as FOOD!
They are BEAUTIFUL. Congratulations on your 1st egg from them. It will be great when they are use to you, I love watchin my chickens go about their chickie business. I call mine by the here chickie chickie (high voice too)... mine come runnin but they know I have food, lol
My chickens would hate me if I didn't bring them treats. After all, I lock them up at night and steal their eggs. But the yummy treats keep them under my feet begging to be my friends. Spagetti is their favorite!
