Fall Apples

I am not a huge apple fan.
But this time of year always has me
thinking about apples and pumpkins.
This is my first year to try making apple butter.
I am also going to try making pumpkin butter in a few weeks.

These apples were given to me by a friend.
I don't mind the blemishes.
These are chemical free apples :  )

I love this gadget!

It peels and cores - slick as a whistle!

The chickens are crazy about the scraps.
(They are getting a little tired of cucumbers)

This is how I like my apples!

I just cooked them until they were soft.

Chopped them up in the blender.

I could have stopped here and had wonderful applesauce.
(it was tempting)

I added equal parts sugar to the applesauce.

And about a tablespoon and a half of Cinnamon
and a half tablespoon of Pumpkin Pie Spice
(and a little lemon juice)

Then I cooked it down for awhile

And water bathed it for 15 minutes.

We will be enjoying this apple butter all winter :  )
